The Death of the iPod
The Last iPod is now discontinued.
--
The Apple iPod Touch is officially the very last iPod. Apple recently announced that they have discontinued the iPod touch, bringing along the death of the iPod.
The iPod is a huge chapter of what made Apple’s success. When Steve Jobs iconically pulled out the iPod from his pocket and explained the device that could carry thousands of songs, and it could go with you anywhere.
From that moment, the iPod was an instant hit, followed up with an commercial style that paid tribute to Andy Warhol which carried on a style of commercials that lasted for many years.
After the iPod’s initial release, many other versions of the iPod followed. Including the iPod Mini, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, and my personal favourite, the iPod Touch. All of them were built around the same purpose of being a portable music player, but as time went on they grew to be more than that.
The iPod Nano was the first to feature a camera, which meant that people were able to take photos and videos. Then the iPod Touch was perfect. At the time, the iPhone was booming as an amazing smartphone, but for thsoe who did not need a phone, the iPod Touch was the perfect device. It allowed users to access all the same apps from the App Store that was growing faster than ever.
Personally, the iPod Touch was my very first iPod, and that too, my very first Apple device.I remember saving up for it for months when I was a kid, and finally on Christmas, I was able to get it. Immediately, I started downloading tons of songs, and games, brought it to school and had the best time with it. For me, it was the first device where I was able to text and keep in touch with friends when I was not at school and at the time, that was a huge deal for me.
Because of the iPod touch, the iPod is always going to hold a special place in my geeky heart as the device that started it all. My interest and love for Apple and technology. And I am sure I am not alone.
With the discontinuation of the iPod, it ends a long, successful chapter in Apple’s history. The iPod was iconic, and changed the world forever. At the time, it was a massive innovation that changed the world, and the competitors could not catch up for a long time. It was a device that showed why Apple was as big as it was, and why they are known for being a company of innovation.
